Opened in 1916, the pier that would be one day known as Navy Pier was used as a dock for passenger ships, as well as for recreation, pageants, and events. Nestled among the countless lights of downtown Chicago, today Navy Pier is the crown jewel of one of the most iconic skylines in the world.
So as you depart eastbound over the lake, or you're coming on final approach westbound, it's ok to take your eyes off your instruments for a second to enjoy the view. Go on, we won't tell. This will be a longer flight, so bring some snacks…

Event Details: Friday Night Ops is a weekly event run by VATUSA; normally visiting places all around the United States. This time around, Friday Night Ops are coming to the land down under within the famous 'J-Curve'. Fly anywhere between Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane from 2300z on the 4th to 0300z on the 5th (1000-1400 ADST).
Flight Planning: In Australia, flight plans are filed in the ICAO format. SIDs & STARs are not included in the filed flight plan. This will be provided by ATC on contact with clearance delivery (for departures) and with the Centre controller prior to top of descent.
Pre-Departure Clearances (PDCs) are used in Australia. Pilots are required to readback PDCs to the delivery controller. However, when reading back the PDC you do not need to read back everything. Just the SQUAWK, DEPARTURE PROCEDURE, RUNWAY and BAY.

Airliners will taxi out from Memphis International Airport, the familiar sights of the city come into view: the Mississippi River snaking through the landscape, the iconic Peabody Hotel, and the bustling downtown area.

As you taxi to the gate, the city of Houston stretches out before you, a sprawling metropolis full of energy and excitement. GA and slower aircraft prepare for your flight from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (KDFW) to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (KIAH) in your general aviation aircraft, the excitement builds.
You taxi out from KDFW, where the sprawling terminal complex and busy runways are a testament to the airport's status as a major hub. With a final check of your instruments and a wave to the ground crew, you take off into the clear Texas sky.
The flight path takes you southeast, offering stunning views of the Texas landscape below. As you climb to cruising altitude, you’ll see the urban sprawl of the Dallas-Fort Worth area gradually give way to the more rural scenery of East Texas.
Below, the patchwork of fields and forests unfolds, with the occasional small town dotting the landscape. As you approach Houston, the terrain becomes more urbanized, and the impressive skyline of Houston comes into view.
